The RM of Stanley, Manitoba, along with Morden and Winkler, will host the Manitoba 55+ Games from June 9 to June 11, 2026, to celebrate active living for seniors across the province. According to Active Aging in Manitoba, the regional event will bring more than 1,000 participants and hundreds of volunteers to the area.
The three-day event features several different sporting competitions, including bowling, bocce, and disc golf. Athletes can also participate in traditional golf, horseshoes, and pickleball at various local facilities across the three communities.
These games have grown from a few hundred people when they started in 1983 to more than 1,600 participants in peak years. This provincial event is especially important this year because the national Canada 55+ Games, which were going to be held in Winnipeg, have been moved to 2028.
Local businesses and service groups are expected to see a significant boost from the visitors staying and eating in the region. According to Sport Manitoba, similar provincial games have brought between $1.7 million and $2.6 million in economic activity to host communities.
Organizers are encouraging local residents to get involved by either signing up to play or by volunteering to help run the events. The collaboration between the cities and the rural municipality aims to provide a high-quality experience for all athletes while showcasing local facilities.
