On March 6, 2026, the provincial government reminded residents in Stanley, Manitoba, that prescription birth control is available at no cost through the provincial Pharmacare program to ensure cost is not a barrier to healthcare. This reminder from Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care clarifies that pharmacies are required to provide these items for free to any resident with a valid health card and prescription.
The free service is part of the Manitoba Enhanced Pharmacare Program, which has provided 100 per cent coverage for birth control and HIV medications since April 15, 2025. Residents of Stanley can access this coverage by visiting their local pharmacy and presenting their Manitoba Health card along with their prescription.
Provincial officials released the update after reports that some people were still being charged at the counter, which is against current policy. Anyone who is incorrectly denied coverage or asked to pay out-of-pocket for their birth control can contact the Minister of Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care at 204-945-3731 for assistance.
