Residents in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, and the nearby community of Richer are facing dangerous travel conditions on the morning of February 12, 2026, due to a thick fog that has settled over the area. On Thursday morning, Environment Canada issued an advisory warning that visibility has dropped to near-zero in some spots, making it difficult for drivers to see the road ahead.

The weather alert was issued after a weather station in Kleefeld recorded temperatures around -8.6 degrees Celsius. This has created a risk for freezing fog, which happens when moisture in the air freezes instantly as it touches the ground. This can leave a thin layer of ice on roads and bridges even if they appear clear.

Drivers on major routes like the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 12 are being warned that visibility can change suddenly from one kilometre to almost nothing. Safety officials recommend turning on your headlights, slowing down, and watching for the tail lights of vehicles ahead. Commuters, school buses, and delivery drivers should allow for extra time or delay trips until the air clears.

The Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne remains under the advisory as the fog continues to move through the Seine River valley. The thick fog is expected to thin out and disappear by early to mid-afternoon today.
