The Steinbach Regional Secondary School Sabres secured a 4–3 overtime victory against the Westwood Collegiate Warriors on January 29, 2026, at the Southeast Event Centre in Steinbach, Manitoba. The home win gives the Sabres momentum as they prepare for the Winnipeg High School Hockey League (WHSHL) playoffs in February.

The game was played at the Southeast Event Centre, the Sabres’ new home ice this season after the team opened the facility on Oct. 8, 2025.

Head coach John Laninga — who told local media in preseason coverage that he has built the program around disciplined defence and strong goaltending — saw the Sabres tie the game 3–3 in regulation before scoring the winning goal in overtime.

According to the Research Dossier and league reporting, the result helps the Sabres maintain a strong position in the WHSHL standings as the Platinum Promotions Division heads toward postseason play. The program has shown steady growth over the last decade in MHSAA varsity competition.
