The Stellarton Public Library at 248 Foord Street is participating in the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library’s “50+1 Best Books to Read” reading challenge. Details and a curated list of 51 titles are available through PARL’s website.

Readers choose from a curated list that spans genres and age groups. After finishing a title, patrons can submit a ballot at their local PARL branch to enter the monthly prize draws.

Ellie Smith, Branch Assistant at the Stellarton Public Library, is the local contact for the program and is coordinating entries and answering questions at that branch. Patrons can also use PARL’s Borrow-by-Mail service to access books if they cannot visit in person; the program is expected to appeal to local book-club members and other community readers.

Organizers say the challenge is intended to boost winter engagement and to demonstrate the library’s value amid regional funding concerns and possible service changes slated for 2026. A PARL service alert has warned that, without sustainable provincial funding, changes could come to library services in 2026.

For full details and to view the curated list, consult the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library website or contact the Stellarton branch at stellarton@parl.ns.ca or 902-755-1638.
