Pictou County Solid Waste (PCSW) has cancelled the rescheduled curbside collection day on Monday, February 2, 2026, because of a major winter storm moving through Nova Scotia. The cancellation affects roughly 85 per cent of households served by PCSW, including residents served on Stellarton’s curbside routes.
Pictou County Solid Waste, working with its collection contractor GFL Environmental, said the cancellation was made to ensure the safety of collection crews and to keep narrow residential streets clear for snowplows. Residents are being asked to secure their bins and bags and to bring them back from the curb to prevent items from being blown away or becoming frozen into snow piles.
PCSW says residents may set out double the amount of material on their next regularly scheduled collection day (Tuesday, Feb. 10) to make up for the missed pickup on Monday, Feb. 2.
Pictou County Solid Waste and local officials also remind residents that loose items, torn bags, or untied bags will not be collected for safety and health reasons. The service disruption follows a pattern of heavy winter weather in the area, including a major early-February 2024 storm that produced record amounts of snowfall in parts of Pictou County.
