A storm system moving south of the province is expected to bring between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow to Stellarton, Nova Scotia, starting Wednesday morning (Feb. 11) and continuing into Thursday (Feb. 12). Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Pictou County saying general amounts of 10 to 20 cm are possible; it forecasts the heaviest snow Wednesday afternoon and evening, which could affect the evening commute on Feb. 11, 2026.

The weather service says the storm could cause reduced visibility and difficult driving conditions as the snow moves across the region. Municipal public works departments typically mobilize plow crews ahead of such storms; the Town of Stellarton’s public works faces increased demand for plowing and salting on high-traffic routes.

The Town of Stellarton reminds residents that winter parking rules are in effect (Dec. 1 to April 15). Vehicles cannot be parked on any street between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., and owners must not leave vehicles in a manner that would hinder snow removal equipment.

Nova Scotia Power says it is monitoring conditions and positions crews and its emergency operations resources as needed to respond to outages that may be caused by heavy, wet snow or wind.

Officials note the exact snowfall amounts could change depending on the storm’s track. Residents are encouraged to plan for slower travel times and stay updated on the latest forecasts and alerts as the system arrives.
