The Town of Stettler council met on January 26, 2026, to discuss bringing new energy projects to the community and how to handle snow on local streets. The meeting in Stettler, Alberta, comes as the town prepares for potential new businesses that require a large amount of electricity.

Leaders heard a presentation from Energy Alberta about clean power solutions that could support future tech businesses. This follows a decision on January 22, 2026, where the council updated local land-use rules to allow for large computer data centers to be built in the area.

The town is also looking at how to manage snow clearing more effectively during the winter months. According to the transportation department, current rules forbid anyone from moving snow or ice from private property onto public roads or sidewalks.

Melissa Robbins, the town’s director of operational services, is working with the council to ensure these rules prevent drainage issues and keep roads safe. Residents are also seeing changes to their bills this year, as utility rates rose by about four per cent starting in January.

The council aims to balance these daily service needs with long-term goals of becoming a hub for new industry. Local officials are waiting for more information on provincial energy recommendations that are expected later this spring.
