On January 8, 2026, the Stettler Public Library (6202 44 Ave, 2nd Floor) in Stettler, Alberta, will host the first Genealogy Club meeting of the new year from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. The free session invites town and county residents to explore their family roots, learn how to build family trees and share research tips in a casual monthly gathering.

The Genealogy Club is part of the library’s Library Corner programming led by Assistant Library Manager Crystal Friars. Participants can use the library’s computer lab to access Ancestry Library Edition at no cost; contact the library to confirm availability of other genealogy databases such as HeritageQuest. Attendees may also bring their own birth, marriage and census records for hands-on help from library staff and members of the Stettler Genealogy Club.

Although the club usually meets on the first Thursday of each month, the January session has been scheduled specifically for January 8. Library staff work with members of the Stettler Genealogy Club to share “tips and tricks” for tracing ancestors, documenting family stories and navigating online databases.

Library staff say local interest in family history has grown in recent years, especially among older adults and residents who resolve in the new year to learn more about their roots. The Genealogy Club aims to connect people, reduce social isolation and help preserve Stettler’s heritage in a friendly, community-focused setting.
