Families in Stonewall, Manitoba, can now play basketball and volleyball for free on Sunday afternoons through a new community recreation program. The weekly drop-in sessions launched on February 2, 2026, at the Stonewall Collegiate Institute (SCI) gym.

Local business D.A.L.C. Roofing & Exteriors is covering the facility permit fees and the cost of a part-time recreation supervisor, allowing the town to waive the usual $5–$10 entry fee. Basketball is offered from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and volleyball follows from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Stonewall recreation officials reported about a 30 per cent increase in attendance on the first day of the program compared to standard paid sessions. Organizers say removing the cost helps families and children stay active during the cold winter months.

These free sessions are expected to run every Sunday through the end of the indoor season (typically late April). While most sessions take place at the Stonewall Collegiate Institute gym, some dates may move to the Veterans Memorial Sports Complex depending on school tournament schedules.
