The City of Stratford Committee of Adjustment will hold a public hearing on March 18, 2026, to discuss two property development requests that could affect local parking and building rules. The meeting will take place at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 1 Wellington Street in Stratford, Ontario.
One application from Northwest Stratford (2016) Developments Inc. seeks to build two six-storey apartment buildings at 680 Orr Street. The plan includes 148 units, but the developer is asking the city to reduce the required visitor parking from 56 spaces down to 23 spaces.
A second proposal at 361 Nelson Street by Hayle Housing Inc. involves turning a detached garage into a small garden suite. This type of project, often called an additional residential unit, is part of a trend to create more housing using existing buildings on a property.
The owner of the Nelson Street property is asking for a change to the side yard rules to allow the building to sit 0.6 metres from the property line instead of the usual 1.0 metre. This change is necessary to allow the conversion of the existing garage into a living space.
Neighbours who are concerned about how these projects might affect their privacy or local traffic can share their thoughts during the hearing. The committee will decide if these changes are appropriate for the neighbourhoods and if they meet the city’s building standards.
