City of Stratford Public Works crews are working through the night on February 18, 2026, to haul away large snowbanks from city streets and sidewalks. This cleanup is happening across Stratford, Ontario, to make sure roads stay wide enough for traffic and drains remain clear before a major ice storm arrives later today.

According to Environment Canada, an orange warning for significant freezing rain is in effect for the area this Wednesday. The City of Stratford is prioritizing main roads like Ontario, Erie, and Huron streets to ensure water can reach the storm drains when the ice eventually melts.

Residents are reminded that parking on any city street is not allowed between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. until March 31. The Stratford Police Service enforces this rule, and those who leave vehicles on the road could face an $80 fine or have their car towed to make room for large snow-clearing machines. A voluntary payment of $60 is available if the fine is paid within seven days.

The Downtown Stratford BIA notes that the city typically tries to finish clearing the downtown core within 48 hours of a big snowstorm. Crews are responsible for maintaining about 200 kilometres of roads and sidewalks to keep the community moving safely during the winter months.
