Educator Aimee Paradis will give a virtual presentation to the Stratford Rotary Club on April 23, 2026, about her experiences teaching in First Nation schools. The talk aims to help residents in Stratford, Ontario, understand the unique rewards and difficulties of working within Indigenous communities.
The event will be held online through a Zoom meeting. Paradis plans to share personal stories from her career to show local teachers, parents, and volunteers how they can get involved in regional Indigenous education initiatives.
Stratford is located on the traditional land of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and the Neutral (Attawandaron) peoples. The city is also a regional neighbour to several First Nations, including the Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point and the Chippewas of the Thames.
Schools in these communities are typically managed by local Band Councils rather than the provincial government. According to Indigenous Services Canada, these schools receive federal funding to support student success and well-being.
Local organizations like the Avon Maitland District School Board are currently working on mandates to support Truth and Reconciliation. This presentation will offer concrete ways for community members to contribute to those efforts through volunteering or professional support.
