The Stratford District Secondary School Equity and Diversity Council is hosting a trivia competition to recognize Black History Month in Stratford, Ontario, on February 26, 2026. The event will take place in the school cafeteria during the second period of the day to give students a chance to learn outside of a traditional classroom setting.
Students can enter the contest in teams of 3-4 people for a fee of $10 per group. Those who do not have a team can sign up individually to be placed with other participants.
The trivia event is timed to end just as the lunch hour begins, running from 10:15 AM to 11:30 AM based on the school bell schedule. This allows the participants to transition directly from the activity into their midday break.
This year is significant because it marks 100 years since organized Black history observances first began in North America. According to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, the 2026 theme focuses on a century of these commemorations.
The school was first formed in 2020 after the local school board joined two former high schools together. Student groups use these activities to bring the student body together and promote cultural awareness within the community.
