The 2026 Prince Edward Island 55+ Winter Games began today, February 23, in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, bringing hundreds of older adults together for a week of competition and social activities. The event, which runs until February 28, is organized by the Prince Edward Island 55+ Games Society to encourage active living for residents aged 55 and older.
Participants from across the province will compete in various sports and games at local facilities. Key locations for the week include bowling at Credit Union Place and curling at the Silver Fox Curling Club.
The competition lineup includes high-energy sports like pickleball and curling alongside social activities such as bridge, Scrabble, darts, and Auction 45s. According to the Government of Prince Edward Island, the games are designed to help seniors stay connected with their community during the winter months.
Registration for this year’s event closed on February 16, 2026. Susan Dalziel, the president of the society, helps lead the volunteer effort that makes the games possible each year for the participants.
The City of Summerside is hosting the games by using its various sports venues, including the multi-purpose sports dome. Local officials expect the influx of visitors to provide a boost to downtown businesses and hotels throughout the week.
