Summerside, PEI, has scored a big win for Canada Day this year, with Alan Doyle and Matt Mays set to headline a free concert at Spinnakers’ Landing. The show happens Wednesday, July 1, 2026, and promises to be the highlight of a full day of waterfront celebrations.
Mayor Dan Kutcher announced the double-bill back on April 21, marking the first public naming of this year’s headliners. Doyle, the former frontman of Great Big Sea, is known across the country for his high-energy, crowd-pleasing shows. Mays is a JUNO Award-winning rocker from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, whose style fits right in alongside Doyle’s Newfoundland folk-rock pedigree.
The gates open at 2 p.m. at 150 Heather Moyse Drive, and the music runs well into the evening. A fireworks show sponsored by Cavendish Farms is scheduled for 10:15 p.m. to close out the night. The celebration also features a strong supporting card with Krysten Cameron, Brooke and Brad, Tcheu Misère, and The Fabulously Rich all performing at the Spinnakers’ Landing stage.
The concert is free for everyone, made possible by funding through Heritage Canada and the support of MP Bobby Morrissey for Egmont. Local sponsor Consolidated Credit Union also stepped up to help bring this level of talent to the city. According to the city’s announcement, the Canada Day celebration continues to grow each year, with organizers calling this year’s lineup one of the most ambitious yet.
Summerside has built a reputation for pulling in big names for the holiday, having hosted Blue Rodeo in 2025 and Alli Walker the year before. Organizers say the free concerts are about building community pride and showing off the waterfront as a destination. “Events like Canada Day play an important role in building community pride and showcasing Summerside as a vibrant place to live and visit,” said Chief Administrative Officer JP Desrosiers in a statement.
The city is buzzing about the double-headliner, with Doyle himself sharing his excitement: “We’ll celebrate the greatest country in the world. Come on. Prince Edward Island. Canada Day. Summerside. It’s going to be awesome.” Residents and visitors from across the Island are expected to turn out in large numbers for the show.
