Harness racing fans can look forward to two more nights of action as Governor’s Plate Week continues at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway on Tuesday, July 14 and Wednesday, July 15, 2026 in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. Race programs for both evenings have now been posted, with post times at 6 p.m. ADT.
The Tuesday card features 12 races headlined by the P.E.I. Colt Stakes, a series that shines a light on young trotters. There are five divisions for two and three-year-olds with purses of $14,400 and $21,100. The week-long event leads up to the $50,000 Governor’s Plate Final on Saturday, July 18, at a special 5 p.m. start time.
The week already produced excitement on opening day when driver Kenny Murphy set a new all-age track record at Summerside. Murphy guided Arbitrage Hanover to a time of 1:50.3 in a Governor’s Plate elimination race on July 12, breaking the previous mark of 1:51.1 set by Roll Em in 2023. Marc Campbell won the other elimination with Get Wings in 1:52.4, helping shape the field for Saturday’s big race.
Governor’s Plate Week is the biggest event of the year at the Prince County oval, located at 55 Greenwood Drive next to Credit Union Place. Fans can watch live racing, place pari-mutuel wagers, and grab a meal at the West End Bar & Grill. The 150th anniversary of harness racing in Summerside is also being celebrated this year, with the first race held back in October 1876.
Red Shores is coming off its most successful season ever, with total wagering across its two tracks topping $10.2 million for the first time, a 14 per cent jump from the year before. The 2025 Governor’s Plate set a wagering record for the fourth straight year, a streak organizers hope to keep alive this week. The Governor’s Plate Final is presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge.
