The Summerside Area Baseball Association (SABA) has launched a new year-round program for girls ages 9 to 18 to help grow the sport in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. This initiative moves baseball from a seasonal activity to a full-year sport by using indoor buildings during the winter to prepare for summer sessions. Registration for the program opened in mid-January 2026.

The program is split into two divisions — Junior (ages 9–13) and Senior (ages 14–18). The upcoming summer portion will feature a seven-week Saturday-morning clinic series held at Legends Field in Queen Elizabeth Park. These sessions are designed to be low-pressure and to focus on both having fun and building skills.

During the colder months, players will practice at indoor locations such as Off the Wallz and the training spaces at Credit Union Place. Local organizers say the goal is to provide a dedicated space for girls to play so they stay involved in sports as they get older. The program positions baseball as a consistent option for families alongside other local sports like hockey and soccer.

The program is organized by SABA in partnership with Baseball PEI and follows a surge in interest after female baseball was included in the 2025 Canada Games. Organizers say moving to a year-round model tells young athletes that baseball can be a long-term pathway rather than just a July hobby. Summerside has previously hosted national women’s and girls’ championships, helping to build a strong local culture for the sport.

The cost for the seven-week summer clinics is expected to be between $150 and $200. Families who want to sign up can find more details and registration forms on the association’s official website.
