The annual #UnstoppABLE campaign is underway across Prince Edward Island, with the Water Street Bakery and Deli in Summerside once again serving as a major contributor to the fundraising effort. Now in its 70th year of operation, Easter Seals PEI is working toward a goal of raising an additional $70,000 to support Islanders living with disabilities.
The campaign, which officially kicked off during a luncheon in February, encourages community members to purchase paper eggs at participating retail locations. Each paper egg serves as a symbol of local support for the organization. In previous years, the team at the Water Street Bakery and Deli has led the country in funds raised through this initiative, with walls and windows at the shop frequently covered in signed eggs from donors.
Bill Martin, owner of the bakery, has long been a driving force behind these efforts. In 2022, he received the Easter Seals National Volunteer Award for his dedication to the mission. Beyond his role as a business owner, Martin chairs the Prince Edward Island Easter Seals Campaign and is an active member of the Summerside Rotary Club, which works alongside the Rotary clubs in Charlottetown and Montague and Eastern PEI to manage the project.
The 2026 campaign is being represented by ambassador Rowan MacDonald, a 16-year-old Grade 10 student from Charlottetown. MacDonald, who has Down syndrome, has spent the spring highlighting the importance of patience and effort in creating an inclusive community. The fundraising efforts continue through the end of April, and residents can contribute at local businesses or online at unstoppable.ca.
