Summerside Police Services arrested four impaired drivers over a three-day stretch in mid-July. The arrests, announced July 14, 2026, occurred between roughly July 11 and 14 and are part of a broader push to keep roads safe in a province with Canada’s highest impaired driving rate.
Police shared the case numbers—2026-967393, 2026-969139, 2026-980704, and 2026-982163—in a post on X, along with a link to the full news release on the Summerside Police Facebook page.
Prince Edward Island continues to lead the country in impaired driving incidents, with a rate of 489 per 100,000 people in 2024—about three times the national average. While that number dropped 5.5 percent from the year before, the province has seen drug-impaired cases more than double since 2019, now making up roughly one-third of all arrests.
The four arrests come as Summerside officers have been stepping up enforcement. In April, six members of the force—Constables David Burke, Kenneth Gillis, Noah Gosse, Andrew Griffin, Kalib Snow, and Prabhjot Uppal—received Bronze Awards at the first MADD Canada Prince Edward Island Police Awards for taking impaired drivers off the road.
Residents who spot a suspected impaired driver are urged to call 911. About one-third of impaired driving arrests in the province start with a tip from the public.
