Prince Street in Summerside, Prince Edward Island will be closed to vehicles from Saturday, July 25 at 8:00 AM until Sunday, July 26 at 9:00 PM for a weekend of back-to-back community celebrations. The City of Summerside advises motorists to plan alternate routes to avoid delays near the Lefurgey Cultural Centre.
The closure sets the stage for three free events at 205 Prince Street. On Saturday, the second annual Latin Festival runs from noon to 4:00 PM with live music, dance, and authentic Latin food. Then on Sunday, the DiverseCity Multicultural Festival takes over from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, featuring global foods, performances, and crafts. That evening, the Summerside Pride Walk and BBQ runs from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the walk starting at City Hall and ending at the Lefurgey Cultural Centre.
The Pride Walk route leaves City Hall at 275 Fitzroy Street, moves through the lot between the Summerside Interpretive Centre and the Summerside Fire Department, then follows Foundry Street and Summer Street before turning onto Winter Street and finishing at the cultural centre for a community barbecue.
The DiverseCity Festival has been running since 2007 and now visits seven communities across the Island, attracting over 30,000 people each year. The Latin Festival returns after its first edition in 2025, presented by the Latinos Association of PEI. Sunday’s Pride events are organized by the City’s Welcoming, Diversity, Inclusivity, and Accessibility Committee as part of the Pride PEI Festival.
All three gatherings are free and family-friendly. With much of Prince Street closed for the weekend, anyone driving downtown should budget extra time and watch for pedestrians crossing the area.
