Summerside, PEI, is in for a stretch of unsettled weather to start the week, but residents can look forward to sunny skies and a high of 24°C by Thursday, according to Environment Canada.
On Monday afternoon, conditions were mainly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and a high of 20°C. The temperature was 17.8°C, humidity 88 percent, and winds from the south-southeast were blowing at 24 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h. No weather alerts are in effect for the area.
The Environment Canada forecast calls for showers tonight with a low of 12°C, followed by a cooler Tuesday with a high of 17°C. Wednesday will bring a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 22°C, before the sunniest and warmest day of the week on Thursday.
The pattern reflects what The Weather Network has described as “traces of spring DNA” for Atlantic Canada this June. The predicted El Niño is expected to bring near-seasonal temperatures overall, but also more frequent cooler and unsettled spells. Despite the cloud cover early in the week, the UV index is forecast to reach 8 on Monday and 7 on Tuesday, so sun protection is still advised.
Friday brings showers back into the picture with a high of 20°C, while Saturday will see cloudy conditions and a high of 17°C. Sunday will be cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and a high of 15°C. For those planning outdoor activities, Thursday stands out as the best day to get outside.
