On January 28, 2026, Swan River RCMP issued a province-wide arrest warrant for 37-year-old Matthew Govereau of Winnipeg in connection with a two-vehicle crash on Highway 10 that left three people dead. Govereau faces 18 charges, including counts of impaired and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, as well as weapons- and drug-related offences.

RCMP say the July 1, 2025 collision occurred on Highway 10 about 1.5 kilometres north of Road 224 North when a southbound vehicle crossed the centre line and struck a vehicle that was parked on the opposite shoulder. The parked vehicle’s occupants, Brendan Berg (the bassist for the band Royal Canoe) and his partner Olivia Michalczuk, were transported to hospital and later died of their injuries. A 29-year-old male passenger in the southbound vehicle was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The arrest warrant follows a multi-month investigation. RCMP say the Crown approved 18 charges on January 20, 2026 relating to the crash and to weapons and drugs recovered from the involved vehicle. Public reporting and RCMP statements say investigators have so far been unsuccessful in locating Govereau; his last known address is in Birch River and he is known to travel frequently in the region, including to Winnipeg.

Swan River RCMP have warned the public not to approach Govereau if they see him. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Swan River RCMP at 204-734-4686 or 204-734-3454, or to leave an anonymous tip with Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
