The Town of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, has published its 2026 disposal rates for the local Waste Transfer Site to help residents budget for household cleanups. Starting this year, local residents will pay $100 per tonne to drop off garbage, with a minimum fee of $5.00 for smaller loads. People living outside the community will be charged $138 per tonne and a $6.90 minimum fee.
The facility accepts cash, debit, and credit cards for payments. While some items are charged by weight, including mattresses and appliances like fridges and freezers, other materials like paint and household batteries remain free to drop off. These rates apply to most renovation waste and general household trash brought to the facility at 5150 30 Street.
Large loads of tree branches and trunks are no longer allowed at the site and must be taken to the City of Red Deer landfill instead. This change was made following a fire at the facility in 2024. Residents who have smaller amounts of yard waste can take advantage of a free tree branch drop-off week running from April 27 to May 2, 2026.
The town has also confirmed dates for its 2026 large item pick-up program. Crews will collect bulky items from the curb on May 12 and September 29, 2026. These events provide an alternative for residents who cannot transport heavy items to the transfer site themselves.
