Environment Canada officially lifted a yellow winter storm warning for Sylvan Lake, Alberta, at 12:10 PM on February 18, 2026. While the immediate threat of heavy snow and whiteout conditions has passed, the region remains under the grip of extreme cold.

The current temperature in the community is -26.7°C, with a wind chill making it feel like -38. According to the Environment Canada alert system, the previous yellow warning meant that hazardous weather was expected to cause moderate or short-term disruptions to daily activities.

Extreme cold has led to bus cancellations for the Chinook’s Edge School Division and Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools. While rural routes are not running due to the risk of frostbite, all school buildings remain open for students who can get there safely.

Drivers should also expect a lane closure at 4615 50 Street while the Town of Sylvan Lake completes utility repairs. The work began at 8:00 AM on Wednesday morning and is expected to affect traffic for part of the day.
