Families in Taché, Manitoba, can head to the library this January for a free LEGO Night aimed at getting the community together for the new year. The event takes place at the Bibliothèque Taché Library, which is currently located inside Collège Lorette Collegiate at 1082 Dawson Road. This program is designed for families with school-aged children (primary focus: ages 5–12) to build and create alongside their parents and neighbours.

The library provides all the bricks and baseplates for the night, so families do not need to bring any of their own toys from home. Children can work on their own designs or take part in building challenges, like creating a model of a future town or a winter scene. After the event, the library often puts the creations on display for a week so other visitors can see what the local kids have made.

This year’s programming comes as the municipality prepares for a major change in its library services. The current shared space in the high school is the library’s home until the new Taché Community Centre opens. The project, which broke ground in late 2024, is expected to open in Summer/Fall 2026 and will include a much larger, approximately 8,000-square-foot, library wing.

LEGO Nights typically run on weekday evenings during the library’s winter hours (Tuesday–Thursday, 4:30 PM–8:30 PM) to make it easier for parents who work during the day to attend. While the building sessions are free, residents can check the Bibliothèque Taché Library website (or the RM of Taché library page) or contact the library by phone or email for information on memberships and other activities. Mayor Armand Poirier has noted that community hubs like the library help local families from different backgrounds meet and connect.
