All 14 branches of the Essex County Library system, including the local branch in Tecumseh, Ontario, will be closed on Friday, April 3, 2026, and Monday, April 6, 2026. These closures for Good Friday and Easter Monday will affect residents who rely on the library for computer access, borrowing books, or picking up items on hold.
The Tecumseh Branch, located at 13675 St. Gregory’s Road, will remain open for its regular Saturday hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 4, 2026, before returning to its full schedule on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. This branch typically opens from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The building recently underwent significant interior renovations that were finished in 2023 to better serve the community.
Residents are encouraged to pick up any waiting materials before the holiday weekend begins. According to the County of Essex, the library now only keeps items on the hold shelf for seven days before they are removed. This policy started in early 2026 to help manage the high volume of materials moving through the system.
The library system is currently seeing record numbers of people attending its events under Chief Librarian Adam Craig. In 2025, the library reported that 99,224 people attended its programs, which was a 28 percent increase over the previous year.
