Residents in Tecumseh, Ontario, who need a place to stay out of the cold can use a nightly warming space in downtown Windsor. The Salvation Army Windsor Centre of Hope has added temporary extra capacity at 355 Church Street to help people stay safe during the winter; reports list between 16 and 20 additional spots.

The space operates nightly (reported hours: 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.) and is scheduled to remain available through March 31, 2026. The program is set up to accommodate single men and couples, and the site is pet-friendly — one of the limited number of pet-friendly emergency shelter options in Windsor-Essex.

Although the site is located in Windsor, it serves residents from Tecumseh and other Essex County municipalities. The City of Windsor is the designated Service Manager for social housing and homelessness programs across Windsor and Essex County and provided coordination and funding for the temporary expansion.

Spots are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, with referrals often coordinated through the Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H4) and local outreach teams. The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit warns that cold-related injuries are preventable and lists emergency shelter spaces as places to stay during extreme cold. Local groups, including organizations that provide evening meals and warm supplies, have also been reported to support people using the site.
