Residents in Tecumseh, Ontario, can now access free online workshops to help them prepare for the upcoming municipal and school board elections on October 26, 2026. The Association of Municipalities of Ontario is running the sessions to teach potential candidates about campaigning, rules, and the responsibilities of holding local office.
The training is split into two different paths, with one focused on community members thinking about their first run for office and another for current leaders considering re-election. These sessions aim to make it easier for people to understand the commitment required before the official nomination period opens later this year.
This effort to support local leadership comes as the Town of Tecumseh prepares for the 2026 election, which will feature the continued use of internet and telephone voting. Mayor Gary McNamara, who has served on the board of the provincial association for nearly 20 years, has been a local advocate for these training partnerships.
To further encourage people to get involved, the town received a grant from the WindsorEssex Community Foundation in late 2025. This funding is being used for strategies to help more people vote and to raise awareness about how the local government works.
