Residents in Tecumseh, Ontario, are being advised to stay indoors or limit strenuous activity following an air quality warning issued early Monday, February 16, 2026. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued the yellow alert at 3:20 AM because of high levels of fine particles caused by stagnant winter weather.

The warning comes as light winds and low-lying fog have trapped pollutants near the ground, creating hazardous conditions that are expected to last through the morning. A separate fog advisory was also issued for the region, which has led to near-zero visibility in some areas alongside the increased air pollution levels.

According to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, people at higher risk should wait to do any difficult outdoor work or exercise. This group includes seniors, children, pregnant people, and anyone with breathing or heart conditions who might experience symptoms like wheezing or chest pain.

Research from the City of Windsor shows that much of the pollution in the region comes from industrial sites and power plants located in Michigan and the Ohio Valley. While the yellow warning signifies a moderate health risk, officials suggest that residents keep their windows closed and use air filters to protect their indoor air until the weather clears.
