Residents in Tecumseh may notice tree trimming crews working in their neighbourhoods over the coming weeks as Essex Powerlines conducts its annual vegetation management program. This work is part of a routine effort to clear branches away from primary and secondary power lines to improve service reliability and prevent electricity outages.
The utility company has hired The Davey Tree Expert Company of Canada to perform the work. These contractors specialize in utility line clearance and have been brought in to ensure that trees are safely managed near electrical infrastructure.
Proactive tree maintenance is a core part of how the utility company manages the risk of power interruptions. Past severe weather events, including high winds and storms, have caused outages in the region, and keeping vegetation clear of lines has been identified as a key strategy to keep the power running for the more than 30,000 customers served by the utility.
Essex Powerlines is owned by four municipalities, including the Town of Tecumseh, alongside Amherstburg, LaSalle, and Leamington. The company regularly rotates this maintenance work through each of its service areas to maintain safety standards.
Residents are encouraged to give work crews space while they are operating in the area to ensure the safety of both the workers and the public.
