On December 13, 2025, the Town of The Blue Mountains posted an update in response to a major water main break in Collingwood that prompted a boil water advisory for parts of that town. The notice says the Town of The Blue Mountains shut off its connection to Collingwood’s system, confirmed its own water supply remains safe and secure, and is offering free water at the south‑side tap of the Thornbury water tower at 81 Victoria Street for affected Collingwood residents.
The break happened on December 12, 2025 near Pretty River Parkway and Hume Street in Collingwood. Crews finished repairs by about 2:45 a.m. on December 13, and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) maintained the advisory for eastern and southern areas pending laboratory testing. Those living or doing business in the affected zones must continue to boil their water or use bottled water until test results confirm safety.
The Town of The Blue Mountains’ action follows its usual supplemental supply relationship with Collingwood (the municipalities are interconnected via the Mountain Road Booster Station). According to the municipal update, isolating the inflow helps safeguard local customers and maintain service for unaffected areas of The Blue Mountains.
Residents in unaffected parts of Collingwood are advised to run their cold taps for a minimum of five minutes; if the water does not run clear after that, they should contact the Town of Collingwood. Those in the advisory area should continue boiling water or using bottled supplies. The advisory will remain in effect until the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit confirms test results and lifts the advisory; the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Barrie office has been engaged and on‑call inspectors have been notified.
