The Manitoba government announced on February 26, 2026, that it is providing $65,000 to upgrade the Arena 1 baseball diamond in The Pas, Manitoba. This funding aims to improve safety and stop game cancellations caused by poor weather and field conditions.
The project will replace the existing fine gravel surface with high-quality top-dressing and fix drainage problems that currently make the field unusable after it rains. Workers will also repack and regrade the infield and install new dugout shelters for the teams.
Minister Glen Simard said the money is being provided through the From the Ground Up – Safe Healthy Communities for ALL program. This provincial initiative focuses on modernizing recreation spaces to make them safer for youth and local families.
The diamond is a key facility for people living in The Pas, the Opaskwayak Cree Nation, and the Rural Municipality of Kelsey. Mayor Andre Murphy noted that the upgrades will help local children stay active and connected by providing a more reliable place to play.
