HEART (Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team) has resumed underwater search operations in waters near The Pas, Manitoba, to continue the recovery effort for 23-year-old Tasha Ferland. Ferland has been missing since Dec. 16, 2025, when the pickup truck she was riding in fell through the ice on Cedar Lake near Manitoba Hydro’s Grand Rapids Generating Station.
The winter search was paused after dangerous ice conditions and damage to HEART’s specialized airboat forced the volunteer team to withdraw. With more open water available, HEART is using a vessel provided by Manitoba Hydro, along with support from local fire crews, to re-run sonar scans and canvass the river system leading into the area. The team is deploying side‑scan sonar (a towfish) and other specialized equipment to image the lake bottom and downstream river channels.
Community members in The Pas and Misipawistik Cree Nation have supported the volunteers with donations of food, fuel and other supplies. HEART is asking people to keep their distance on the water so the sonar and tow cables can operate safely and get a clear view below the surface.
The recovery mission is focused on locating Ferland to bring answers to her family and the Misipawistik Cree Nation. According to RCMP and local reporting, the body of the truck’s driver, Corbin Constant, 31, was recovered in January (reported Jan. 6); Ferland has not been located and the search remains active, weather and conditions permitting.
