The Town of The Pas is inviting residents to put their names forward for town council, with nominations now open following the resignation of Mayor Andre Murphy in early August.
Murphy stepped down on August 10, 2026, saying he wanted to be closer to family in eastern Canada. He will not run in the upcoming municipal election on October 28, 2026. Deputy Mayor Carrie Atkinson is handling day-to-day duties until then.
The town posted a Notice of Nominations on August 26, and a Consider Running for Council notice earlier in the month. Anyone interested in serving on council must submit their nomination before the deadline of September 22, 2026, as required by Manitoba municipal election rules.
The Pas, known as the Gateway to the North, is home to roughly 5,500 people. The mayor’s chair is not the only seat up for grabs; every council position is up for election this fall. Current council members include Atkinson and councillors Gary Hopper, Trent Allen, Randy Manych, Margaret Commodore, and Larry Forster.
Because Murphy resigned so close to the general election, no byelection will be held for the mayor’s role. Residents will choose a new mayor and council on October 28, 2026, with advance voting dates to be set by the town.
