Drivers in Thompson will need to watch for a new traffic setup on Princeton Drive starting September 3, 2026. The City of Thompson has closed access to Princeton Drive from Mystery Lake Road, while two-way traffic is now in place between Duke Place and Thompson Drive South.
The changes are part of ongoing road and water main work along Princeton Drive. The road has been narrowed in construction areas, and flaggers are on site directing traffic. The City of Thompson advises motorists to use caution and follow the flaggers’ directions.
This work is part of the fifth year of an $87 million water, sewer, and road renewal program launched in 2019. The program received $20 million in federal funding and $13.3 million from the province for road renewal covering about 20 kilometres.
Localized boil water advisories remained in effect for Princeton Towers at 424 Princeton Drive and the Wellbriety Centre at 504 Princeton Drive through August 2026 because of the water main work. Mayor Colleen Smook has acknowledged that residents are tired of construction but says the project is a positive improvement for Thompson. “People are tired of construction, but it is absolutely a good news story for Thompson,” she said.
Motorists should allow extra travel time and follow posted signage in the area while the work continues.
