Residents in Three Rivers, Prince Edward Island, should prepare for potential changes to their waste collection times starting March 8, 2026. The Island Waste Management Corporation announced that seasonal road weight restrictions are now in effect, which may cause trucks to arrive earlier or later than usual.
The Government of Prince Edward Island puts these rules in place every spring to protect roads from damage during the annual thaw. Because the ground is soft, heavy trucks must drive slower, carry lighter loads, or use different routes to keep the pavement from cracking.
Officials recommend that households keep their waste, compost, and recycling carts at the curb even if they are not picked up at the regular time. In some cases, collection might not happen until the following day.
If your waste has not been collected by the end of the day following your usual pickup day, you are encouraged to contact the customer service centre for more information. These restrictions are expected to last through the spring season as the province manages the changing road conditions.
