The Government of Prince Edward Island has announced a wave of funding for community organizations aimed at boosting diversity, equity, and inclusion, including several projects that will benefit the Three Rivers area. The announcements, made throughout February 2026, include over $1 million in combined support through provincial Anti-Racism and Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI) grants.

On February 20, 2026, Montague Regional High School and Amherst Cove Consolidated were awarded a joint $15,000 grant for a project called Changemakers Coast to Coast. This initiative is designed to help students and the community recognize and address racism and small, everyday acts of discrimination, known as microaggressions.

Another project by the PEERS Alliance will bring a wider variety of books to rural communities across the province. The group was awarded a $5,000 grant to create The Waiting Room Library, which provides books about different backgrounds to local offices and organizations, with a priority focus on rural regions like Three Rivers.

On February 26, 2026, the province announced an additional 32 organizations would receive GEDI and Community Engagement funding. This includes Family Violence Prevention Services, which received $26,000 to provide safety equipment to women living in rural areas to help prevent gender-based violence.

Since the provincial GEDI program first launched in 2022, it has distributed a total of $2.4 million to 56 different organizations. These funds have supported 82 projects across the province that aim to make local communities more inclusive and welcoming.
