The Prince Edward Island Executive Council Office and the Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action released the official 2026 Hunting and Trapping Summary on February 6, 2026. The provincial announcement sets the 2026 season dates and bag limits that apply across PEI, including to residents of Three Rivers, and explains licensing and other regulatory requirements. The summary is intended to support sustainable wildlife populations and clarify legal hunting windows.
Three Rivers residents should review the provincial rules together with the Town of Three Rivers municipal bylaws that govern the discharge of firearms. Recent municipal updates to zoning and firearm-discharge maps and schedules have changed no-discharge boundaries in and near the Montague and Georgetown areas; hunters are advised to check the towns bylaws and maps before hunting to ensure they are not discharging a firearm in a restricted zone.
The 2026 summary continues the allowance for Sunday hunting after the province lifted the previous ban in 2024. It also includes a “floating start” mechanism for Canada goose seasons to account for possible early freeze-up of the Cardigan and Brudenell rivers. These seasonal rules are set by regulation and Orders in Council under the Wildlife Conservation Act, which together provide the legal framework for harvesters in the province.
Details on licences, bag limits and season dates are available on the provincial Government of PEI website. Hunters of migratory game birds (ducks, geese) should also consult Environment Canadas provincial migratory bird hunting summary for the federal regulations that apply to those species.
