Thunder Bay families looking for a fun and affordable summer outing can head to the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium for two days of movie matinees this July and August. The Summertime Movie Matinees will take place on Tuesday, July 28 and Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the landmark performing arts centre on Paul Shaffer Drive.
Tickets for the events are $7 for children and $10 for adults, and one ticket covers both films shown that day. All tickets must be purchased in person at the box office, which is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from noon to 4:30 p.m., as well as three hours before any ticketed event. Tickets went on sale on June 23, 2026.
On July 28, the matinees feature Sonic the Hedgehog 3 at 1 p.m. and A Minecraft Movie at 3 p.m. The August 4 lineup offers The Fantastic Four: First Steps at 1 p.m. and Superman at 3 p.m. Each day provides a double feature that lets families settle in for an afternoon of entertainment in the 1,500-seat auditorium, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this season.
The Summertime Movie Matinees are part of the auditorium’s long-standing tradition of offering family-friendly programming during school breaks. While the venue is best known as the home of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and over 100 live performances each year, these movie days give the community a different way to enjoy the space at an affordable price.
More information about the matinees and box office hours is available on the auditorium’s website.
