The 14th annual Thunder Bay Science Festival will bring a week of hands-on learning and family activities to Thunder Bay, Ontario, from February 16 to February 21, 2026. The event begins on Family Day and offers students and families educational options during the mid-February school break.
Led by Science North and Lakehead University, the festival features workshops and a research area highlighting scientific work in Northern Ontario. These programs are designed to provide free or low-cost experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, with a special emphasis on local innovation and Indigenous knowledge.
The week ends with the Science Carnival on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Intercity Shopping Centre. As the largest public event of the festival, this one-day finale includes over 20 local exhibitors and is open to the public at no cost from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Community partners like the Thunder Bay Museum and the Intercity Shopping Centre help host the various activities. The festival focuses on making science education accessible to everyone in the community while highlighting the scientific challenges and breakthroughs unique to the North.
