Oxford County Council will meet on January 28, 2026, to move forward with a $4.9 million water project in Tillsonburg, Ontario, alongside several changes to local garbage and recycling services. This meeting is the first major session of the year and focuses on how the community will pay for essential services like road safety and ambulance response times.
Residents will see a direct impact on their household costs as the price for garbage bag tags increases from $2.00 to $3.00 this month. Additionally, council will review the first few weeks of a new recycling system managed by a group called Circular Materials, which recently took over the Blue Box program across the province.
A significant portion of the meeting will focus on the $4.9 million plan to remove arsenic from Well 7A in Tillsonburg to ensure the local water supply remains safe. This project is a key part of the broader Oxford County budget, which was finalized in late 2025 to address aging pipes and treatment plants.
The 2026 budget includes a 5.3 per cent tax increase, which means the average homeowner in Tillsonburg will pay about $77 more on the county portion of their property taxes this year. Other local plans on the horizon include building 14 new affordable housing units on Harvest Avenue to help residents struggling with housing costs.
The meeting is open to the public at the administration building in Woodstock starting at 9:30 AM. Those who cannot attend in person can watch the session through an online livestream or read the full agenda on the Oxford County council website.
