The City of Timmins, Ontario, has reached a major milestone this winter after moving snow to municipal dump sites this weekend. Following a surge of activity over the weekend of February 7–8, 2026, crews hauled away a further 745 loads from neighborhood streets to restore road width and improve sightlines at intersections, making that a total of more than 2,000 this winter.

Crews from the Timmins Public Works Department are now focusing on residential areas where snow banks have reached capacity. They are using heavy equipment such as industrial snow blowers, loaders and tandem/tri-axle trucks to haul the snow from curbs to designated municipal snow dumps.

City officials say widening the streets is necessary so that large emergency vehicles like fire trucks can pass safely during an emergency. While these operations help clear the way, they often leave behind piles of snow, called windrows, at the end of residential driveways. The City typically does not clear private driveways after the plow passes.

The city is reminding drivers to follow overnight parking rules to help keep the streets clear for snow-removal equipment. Residents can expect work to continue across various blocks as the city manages the high volume of snowfall seen so far this season.
