The City of Timmins has presented the Heart of Gold Award to Take Two Theatre to celebrate 40 years of local arts and storytelling in Ontario. This civic honour recognizes the volunteer-run group for its long-standing dedication to providing live entertainment and cultural activities for residents.

Since it was founded in 1984, the non-profit organization has operated without a permanent building of its own. Volunteers often transform local school gyms and banquet halls, such as the Dante Club, into temporary performance spaces to keep the arts alive in the community.

Director Gord King says that live theatre is like a tightrope walk because actors must rely on one another in front of a live audience. He noted that while the group is proud of the award, they continue to work hard to stage professional-quality shows despite the lack of a dedicated municipal theatre building.

As the group marks its 40th anniversary, organizers are inviting the public to get involved in upcoming productions like “Snow White.” They are currently looking for new actors, stage technicians, and general volunteers to help keep the theatre running for future generations.

Residents can support the group through a $30 annual membership, which offers access to weekly acting classes and opportunities to help with set building. The theatre is located at 681 Pine Street North and continues to rely on ticket sales and local sponsorships to fund its seasonal shows.
