Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warning for the Tuktoyaktuk and East Channel region in the Northwest Territories for the afternoon and evening of March 11, 2026. This storm will bring heavy snow and blowing snow that will make it very hard to see while driving or walking outdoors.
According to Environment Canada, the blizzard is expected to start around noon and end near midnight. The agency is telling residents to stay indoors and avoid travel whenever possible until the weather improves overnight.
The storm will bring northwest winds of 40 kilometres per hour with gusts as high as 60 kilometres per hour. These winds will make it feel like minus 39 degrees Celsius outside, which creates a high risk of frostbite for anyone who goes out in the cold.
Once the blizzard ends, the weather will stay mostly cloudy with a low temperature of minus 25 degrees Celsius. There is a 30 per cent chance of light snow flurries for the rest of the night.
