Nominations are now open for the 2026 Indigenous Sport Circle NWT awards, recognizing individuals who make a difference in sport across the territory. The nomination deadline is September 22, 2026.
Tuktoyaktuk has strong contenders for this year’s awards. Five local athletes, Ross Felix, Trent Wolki, Zion Adam, Paden Elias, and Leaon Gruben-Mangelana, represented Team NT in U17 Male Arctic Sports at the 2026 Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse. Alaina Noksana also competed in U17 Female Arctic Sports.
Last year, Tuktoyaktuk’s Sarah and Davy Krengnektak received the Language and Culture Award for sharing Inuvialuit knowledge through traditional caribou hunts with youth.
Community members can nominate coaches, athletes, and volunteers who strengthen Indigenous sport. The awards dinner will be held November 28, 2026 at the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife. Awards are open only to persons of Indigenous descent.
