View Royal drivers can expect some minor delays on Saturday, May 30, 2026 as hundreds of cyclists take to local roads and trails for the Royal Canadian Navy’s annual Navy Bike Ride. The recreational event, which starts at 10:30 a.m. from the CFB Esquimalt gate at Colville Road and Admirals Road, is expected to wrap up by 2:30 p.m., according to a traffic advisory from the Town of View Royal.
The ride will bring cyclists along several View Royal routes, including Hallowell Road, Burnett Road, Adams Place, Island Highway, Burnside Road West, and Talcott Road. Riders will mostly use the E and N Rail Trail and the Galloping Goose Regional Trail, with military and traffic control personnel posted along the way to keep things moving. The Town’s engineering department warns that minor traffic delays are possible, so drivers should be ready for slower speeds and more cyclists on the road during the ride window.
Now in its eleventh year, the Navy Bike Ride has become a regular spring event in Greater Victoria, raising money for three military charities: the Navalis Foundation, Support Our Troops, and Soldier On. As of Friday, the 2026 campaign had brought in over $29,000, with the biggest donation being $10,000 from The Balsillie Family Foundation. Riders could sign up for 18-kilometre or 36-kilometre loops for $50, which includes a special T-shirt and challenge coin. A free Kids Bike Rodeo is also happening at 10 a.m. for children 12 and under.
This year’s ride comes as the Capital Regional District continues major upgrades to the Galloping Goose Trail through View Royal. Crews have been working near Island Highway and Burnside Road on a new bridge and wider paths as part of a $53.5-million project. The trail sees more than 3.8 million visitors a year, and the improvements aim to keep up with growing demand.
Anyone driving through View Royal on Saturday morning and early afternoon should give themselves a little extra time and watch for cyclists and flaggers on the route.
