The Town of View Royal, British Columbia, is inviting community members to join upcoming volunteer work parties at Portage Park to help maintain local green spaces. These events, which focus on cleaning up the park and removing plants that do not belong there, will take place on March 21, 2026, and March 29, 2026.
The sessions will run from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and focus on protecting the health of the park’s Douglas fir and Garry oak forests. Residents do not need any prior experience to participate, as the town provides all necessary tools and instructions on-site.
These regular work parties are a major part of the town’s effort to remove invasive plants like English ivy that can harm the local ecosystem. In the past, volunteers and groups like the Greater Victoria Green Team have cleared thousands of pounds of these plants from the park grounds to help the forest thrive.
According to the official town calendar, these events offer a hands-on way for residents to learn about local nature while helping with trail maintenance. The program aims to ensure that natural areas remain healthy and accessible for all community members to enjoy.
