The Waterloo Regional Police Service is asking for the public’s help to identify a woman who gained access to a Kitchener apartment building after falsely identifying herself as a personal support worker (PSW). The incident occurred on November 24, 2025, in the Southdale area of Kitchener.
According to a WRPS media release, on Nov. 24 at approximately 2:00 p.m. an elderly resident allowed an unknown woman into her apartment after the woman said she was attending to provide scheduled personal care services. The suspect assisted the resident with personal care and then requested cash payment. Police say the woman is not employed by the resident’s care provider and that no physical injuries were reported.
WRPS issued a renewed public appeal for information on Jan. 23, 2026; CityNews Kitchener reported on the appeal the same day.
The incident has prompted warnings for residents in high-density housing to be cautious about who they let into buildings. WRPS and safety advisors recommend that tenants never buzz in or open secure doors for strangers, always ask service providers for photo identification or call the agency to verify appointments, and that building managers ensure CCTV cameras are operational and focused on entry points.
Local police are encouraging anyone who sees suspicious persons loitering near building entrances to report the activity. Anyone with information about this case or who recognizes the person pictured in the WRPS release is asked to contact the Waterloo Regional Police Service non-emergency line at 519-570-9777 (WRPS, ext. 8763). Anonymous tips can be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or via www.waterloocrimestoppers.com.
