A 19-year-old man from Wilmot, Ontario, faces several charges after hitting a snowbank during a single-vehicle crash on February 26, 2026. The Waterloo Regional Police Service responded to reports of reckless driving in the area of Hillfield Drive at approximately 3:50 p.m.
Officers arrested the driver at the scene after his vehicle sustained significant front-end damage. The man faces four charges, including operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs, dangerous driving, and having cannabis easily accessible in the car. No physical injuries were reported following the collision.
This arrest follows a report that impaired driving charges in the region rose by 18 per cent in 2025. Last year, police laid 967 charges compared to 818 the year before.
Police are continuing to focus on road safety, particularly on rural township roads. This effort follows 15 fatal collisions that resulted in 17 deaths across the region in 2024. Officers are specifically looking for high-risk behaviours such as impaired driving, speeding, and distracted driving to help reduce serious collisions.
